Lambeth/LSTSH Full Training Programme - overview

For those schools considering following
the Lambeth/LSTSH Full ECF Programme...

The Lambeth Full ECF Training Programme is offered in partnership with the London South Teaching School Hub (LSTSH) - this will be delivered for Lambeth schools in partnership with the Gipsy Hill Federation, Lambeth Training Support Alliance, Lilian Baylis Technology School and the Sharing Excellence Partnership.

The Full ECF Programme consists of four strands:

  • Programme inductions for ECTs and Induction Mentors at the start of both years

LSTSH have indicated that, where schools know who their September 2022 Year One cohort Induction Mentors are before the end of the 2021-2022 academic year, there will be the opportunity for these Induction Mentors to have their programme induction in
July 2022; there will also be a programme induction in September 2022 for those Induction Mentors not known by July 2022, but this will potentially enable schools not to have to release both ECTs and Induction Mentors for programme inductions early in the new school year...

Details will be sent to Induction Mentors as September 2022 Year One cohort ECTs are registered...

  • Self-directed study for ECTs and Induction Mentors

  • Interactions between ECT and Induction Mentor

  • Training seminars for ECTs and Induction Mentors

Year One

ECTs study six modules during the course of the year:

  • How can you create powerful learning environments?

  • How do pupils learn?

  • What makes classroom practice effective?

  • How can you use assessment and feedback to the greatest effect?

  • How can you support all pupils to succeed?

  • How can you plan a coherent curriculum?

Each module contains self-directed learning (4.5 hours for ECTs and 1 hour for Induction Mentors), interactions between ECT and Induction Mentor (weekly) and training seminars (two of 90 minutes each for ECTs and one of 90 minutes for Induction Mentors).

Year One ECT Training Seminars

ECTs starting their induction in September are allocated to one of four Lambeth clusters

Primary North - led by the Lambeth Training Support Alliance

Primary South - led by the Gipsy Hill Federation

Secondary North - led by Lilian Baylis Technology School

Secondary South - led by the Sharing Excellence Partnership

ECTs starting their induction in January or after Easter will train as part of a cross-LSTSH online training cohort, as numbers are not sufficient to allow for individual boroughs to offer their own clusters.

Year One Induction Mentor Training Seminars

Induction Mentors will train as part of a cross-LSTSH online training cohort based on the start date of their ECT.

The themes of these seminars are:

  • Mentoring to develop strong relationships

  • Precise actions and shared language

  • Not all practice is made equal

  • Managing workload and wellbeing

  • Balancing support and challenge

  • Building resilience

Year Two

ECTs follow six cycles during the course of the year:

  • Developing pupils' intrinsic motivation

  • Supporting pupils to develop subject-specific skills

  • Using meaningful and memorable explanations

  • Anticipating and addressing common misconceptions

  • Using structured talk to develop pupils' literacy skills

  • Developing a coherent curriculum

and will build on the learning of Year One.

Each cycle contains self-directed learning (up to 1 hour for ECTs and Induction Mentors), interactions between ECT and Induction Mentor (fortnightly), training seminars (one of 90 minutes for ECTs and Induction Mentors) - plus the opportunity for ECTs to observe an expert's practice.

Year Two ECT Training Seminars

Training will happen in online cross-LSTSH phase or subject/subject group clusters, allowing ECTs to deepen their knowledge and expertise.

Year Two Induction Mentor Training Seminars

Again, Induction Mentors will train as part of a cross-LSTSH online training cohort.

The themes of these seminars are:

  • Year Two induction

  • Engaging your ECT with research

  • The adaptive teacher

  • A professionally-acceptable workload

  • Developing an inclusive educator

  • Developing beyond the ECF
